CHLOÉ AUGAT & SHANON FRANSSEN

Shanon Franssen is a lead coordinator at the Community Development Solidarity Corporation Saint-Henri (CDC Saint-Henri) in Montréal. Together with her colleague Chloë Augat, who is a project officer and specialist of the Canada Malting dossier at the same organization, they are working towards a collective mandate for the old Notre-Dame library in the Saint-Henri neighborhood that has been vacant since 2009. Plans for public consultations with neighborhood residents and the local borough about the future of the old library building are considered as a first step towards possibilities for transitory, then permanent occupation of the heritage site. The Community Development Solidarity Corporation, a community-based network of citizen organizations that advocates for the rights of the citizens of Saint-Henri and the betterment of their living conditions, essentially promote social justice approaches to urban space use and encourage citizen participation in urban decision-making on issues such as housing, food sovereignty, and the environment.
